About

David  Sutherland is a UK & Europe based psychotherapist working with clients internationally.

His work sits at the intersection of psychotherapy, relational systems, and long-term emotional development, with a particular focus on enmeshment, ´differentiation of self’ (Murray Bowen), and processes of ´individuation´ (Carl Jung).

He has studied & worked within the psychotherapy field for over 20 years, and has held an international private practice for more than a decade.

David originally trained at The Metanoia Institute (London, UK), then a further postgraduate training in Psychosexual and Relationship Therapy (London, UK).

His weekly mentorship from a Senior Jungian Analyst over the last 9 years was foundational and precipitatory to his Individuation - simply a return to ‘ordinary life’. New ‘Ways of seeing’ in life and psychotherapy followed.

Over the past two decades, his work and journey has been shaped through ongoing learning with academic teachers, authors, mentors working at the borders, supervisors, and clinicians whose thinking and lineage continues to inform his practice.

These relationships and their integration, alongside his clients, and his life experience, has led to deeply valued and privileged insights, which formed this present offering.

He is also the founder of the first practice in the UK and Europe dedicated specifically to enmeshment work:
